overview

Regional logistics across East Africa looks simple: rent a truck, drive to neighboring country, deliver cargo.

In reality: border procedures differ by country. Customs officials in Kenya don't work the same way as Tanzania or Uganda. Seasonal road closures exist. Trucking rates fluctuate. Coordination across teams is complex

Most brokers outsource regional logistics to local trucking companies and hope it works.

Trevart coordinates regional movement end-to-end.

How We Plan Operations

HOW REGIONAL FREIGHT WORKS

Step 1: You Need Regional Distribution You import to Kenya but need cargo in Uganda, Tanzania, or Rwanda too. We quote inland freight rates, customs coordination per country, and delivery timelines.

Step 2: Consolidation Planning Cargo arrives at Mombasa port. Rather than splitting to three different trucks (inefficient), we consolidate: some cargo stays in Nairobi, some goes to Uganda, some to Tanzania.

We plan optimal routing and truck loads for cost efficiency.

Step 3: Customs Per Country Each country has different customs procedures:

  • Kenya: We know KRA procedures (we do this daily)

  • Uganda: We know URA (Uganda Revenue Authority)

  • Tanzania: We know TPA (Tanzania Port Authority)

We handle country-specific customs for each shipment.

Step 4: Trucking Coordination Trucks depart from Mombasa consolidation hub:

  • Nairobi route: 2-3 days

  • Uganda route: 4-5 days (via Nairobi)

  • Tanzania route: 3-4 days

  • Rwanda route: 5-6 days

Real-time tracking on all trucks. You know location always.

Step 5: Delivery Cargo delivered to final destination in each country. Customers sign for delivery.

REGIONAL ROUTING & CONSOLIDATION

Regional movement requires strategic planning, not just trucking.

Planning process:
  • Assess cargo destination (Nairobi, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, or multi-country)

  • Consolidate efficiently (combine multi-destination cargo into fewer trucks)

  • Determine optimal routes (fastest, most cost-efficient)

  • Plan customs stops per country (time required at borders)

  • Coordinate with local partners in each country

  • Communicate timelines to customers

Smart consolidation saves you 15-25% vs. individual shipments.

How We Execute Services

BORDER COORDINATION & TRUCK DISPATCH

Regional trucking involves more than vehicle movement—it's customs coordination at every border.

Execution:

  1. Cargo loaded at Mombasa consolidation facility

  2. Truck departs with proper documentation (customs manifests, bills of lading)

  3. Border crossing (Kenya→Uganda or Kenya→Tanzania)

    • Our border-efficient team handles documentation

    • Cargo passes through without major delays (vs. standard 4-8 hour border waits)

    • Often 1-2 hours because we pre-notify and have relationships with border officials

  4. Truck continues to destination

  5. Real-time tracking throughout journey

  6. Cargo arrives at regional destination

Key difference: We don't just hire trucks. We coordinate the borders. That's what saves 2-3 days vs. standard trucking.

How We Deliver Results

REAL-TIME VISIBILITY & FINAL DELIVERY

You track cargo across three countries.

Visibility:

  • Truck dispatch (departure time from Mombasa)

  • Route progress (real-time GPS location)

  • Border crossing updates (at KE-UG border, at KE-TZ border)

  • ETA by country (when arrival expected in Uganda, Tanzania, etc.)

  • Delivery confirmation (cargo delivered, customer signed)

Timelines:

  • Kenya delivery (Nairobi): 2-3 days from port clearance

  • Uganda delivery: 4-5 days from port

  • Tanzania delivery: 3-4 days from port

  • Rwanda delivery: 5-6 days from port
